Another Lusitano Breed show and another fantastic weekend. Xá was on good form and won the in-hand partbred class and also the Championship. He behaved very well in the parade class and we won the best dressed in Portuguese suit and tack.
A great chance to catch up with everyone at the Golega style BBQ. Well done to everyone who went. Really pleased for clients Paula Curtis who did a great job of showing off Vicosa and Catherine Smith and Viriato who got some good results.

On July 21st I joined seven other riders with their Lusitanos at the Hickstead showground, together we demonstrated the versatility and the functionality of the Lusitano horse.
The demo opened with a working equitation display, Viriato and I joined Natasha Read and Sasa to show obstacles both one and two handed and the second part of the demo showed Lusitanos at both ends of the dressage scale. Gonzalo riding a four year old mare and Justine riding a fully trained stallion.
The final display showed six riders in formation in traditional Portuguese dress. Viriato was fantastic leading the ride and all stallions and mares behaved impeccably. After putting the horses to bed we attended the ball and danced the night away. Another great demo!

In Hindu wedding tradition the groom arrives on a white stallion. When friends Caroline and Ajay announced their engagement and began searching for a horse Hassan sprang to mind. Following his on stage début at the Brighton festival I knew the Lusitano stallion Hassan would be perfect.
The wedding went off without a hitch and Hassan was a star. The temperament and versatility of the Lusitano is amazing and Hassan did an a great job of promoting the breed. Congratulations to Caroline and Ajay, Jai Ho!

My second year competing at Royal Windsor with Xá and very pleased to improve on last years results. A fantastic atmosphere with the added excitement of the Jubilee celebrations! A massive turn out for both classes with 27 horses in the Ridden Lusitano class and 20 horses in the Parade class.
This year the classes were judged by Lady Silvia Loch. After getting called in to the top six in both classes we were placed 3rd in the Ridden Lusitano and 5th in the Parade. Some lovely horses and riders, a fantastic Royal Windsor!

A Fantastic turn out for the Lusitano classes at this years Woodbridge show. Due to large numbers the in-hand and ridden classes were split in to purebred and partbred. Xá won both part bred classes and behaved well despite the cold and wind.
The Parade class attracted a large audience being held in the main ring at lunch time. Xá improved on last years 3rd place and beat off stiff competition to come 2nd!

The South of England carriage driving fair enjoyed a new venue this year in the enormous indoor school at Merrist wood, Guildford. I was asked to take part in the Lusitano demo riding 10 year old gelding Viriato owned by Catherine Smith. Organiser Sherene Rahmatalah and I performed dresssage to music to start the demo.
Sherenes horse Quota and Viriato were well matched and danced their way through Madonna! Viriato and I also demonstrated Working Equitation Obstacles, he was great and coped with the “hot” arena well. A great demo and promotion for the Lusitano!

Iberian Horse Lovers Calendar 2012
The Breed show was held at Keysoe in Bedfordshire on the 16th to the 18th September.
The show started with the Working Equitation on the Friday. In the novice level I competed Xá (owned by Fenella Roiz De Sa) . We won the dressage and were clear in the style and speed coming overall second. In the International level I competed Safio (owned by Gemma Palmer). Really pleased with him especially coming second in the speed round by two seconds! Fantastic competition.
On the Saturday Xá was reserve champion part bred lusitano and on the Sunday Xá beat off hot competition to win the Novice riding class.
A great show and lovely to catch up with everyone at the Golegá style Gala evening.

HASSAN AT THE BRIGHTON DOME
Taking Pine Lodges Hassan to the Brighton Dome was a great experience. Lovely to get an insight in to the world of stage and theatre. He was a perfectly behaved stallion and admired by many. Even the security guards in the park outside the palace refrained from evicting us as Hassan passaged and pirouetted warming up for the show. Rider and actor Luis Fernando Villegas was a pleasure to work with as were all the staff at the Brighton Festival. Golden moment, Hassan bowing to small children playing in the park!
