European Working Equitation Championships 2008

Seven British riders competed recently at the European Working Equitation Championships which were held on 10th-12th October 2008 at the Horse Country Resort in Arborea, Sardinia.

Teams from Italy, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Sweden and Great Britain were represented in the senior competition and two individual Austrian riders also took part. Belgium, Italy and Great Britain also each fielded 3 junior riders, to compete in the junior section.

The British team members, led by chef d’equipe Sherene Rahmatallah, comprised of Holly Barber, riding the 10 year old gelding, Rafa and Alexandra Downing who rode the 7 year old mare Uxaria – both horses are owned by Sue Barber, the proprietor of Pine Lodge School of Classical Equitation. Sarah Way rode her 11 year old gelding, Ortega and Tori Peter, from Cheshire rode her 8 year old stallion, Sueste. Individual rider, Marcia Wakeman from Buckinghamshire had to substitute her team horse at the last moment for one of the junior horses.

The junior team riders were Charlotte Lee riding Wee Spot, Natasha Reid riding Vicosa and Holly Barber riding Rafa, all of whom train at Pine Lodge. All riders have been competing this year in a series of competitions across the UK, organised by the UK ruling body Working Equitation UK, in preparation for Sardinia.
